Better Tomorrow Makers: How Morro Partnerships is Bringing ESG to Life Through Digital Innovation

Meet the Buyer: Morro Partnerships

Social value and sustainability are no longer just talking points in construction – they’re operational priorities. And for Morro Partnerships, they’re deeply embedded in both strategy and delivery.

In this Meet the Buyer feature, we speak to Abdul Mozzamdar, Head of Social Purpose at Morro Partnerships, to explore how the company is putting purpose into practice. From community-first regeneration to pioneering paperless innovation, Abdul shares how digital tools are helping Morro track, evidence, and amplify its social impact.

Introduction to Morro Partnerships

Abdul, can you start by telling us a bit about Morro and your role in the business?

"I’ve spent the last 20 years working in the ESG space within a construction setting, and I’ve been fortunate to support clients, partners and stakeholders who trust me to guide them through the strategic and operational side of ESG delivery.

Morro Partnerships has been delivering new build developments for over 30 years. We focus on both refurbishment and regeneration projects for affordable and private housing, working closely with local authorities and housing providers. For us, it’s not just about bricks and mortar – it’s about creating places where communities can thrive."

Social Value and Sustainability

Why is social value and sustainability so important to Morro?

"Because we build homes for real people, and that means we have a responsibility to contribute to the communities we’re building in.

As a partnerships business, we’re committed to delivering tangible benefits – from apprenticeships and employment opportunities to school engagement, local charity partnerships, and supporting social enterprises. We recycle and segregate more than 90% of our on-site waste, and we actively donate and repurpose reusable materials. It’s all part of being a responsible neighbour.

We also believe in local economic sustainability. We prioritise spending within the locality of our projects to ensure the value we create stays within the community. That sense of place-based responsibility runs through everything we do."

Digitalisation for Tomorrow

Can you expand on your tagline “Better Tomorrow Makers” and how digitalisation fits into that?

"It’s more than a tagline – it’s how we hold ourselves accountable. Being a “better tomorrow maker” means thinking long-term in every decision we make.

One example of this is Project QR, an initiative we introduced to replace traditional printed user guides with digital versions. By giving residents instant access to guides via QR codes, we’ve drastically reduced paper usage, while also making the information easier to access and keep up to date. It’s a simple shift, but it speaks volumes about our commitment to better, smarter solutions."

Seeking a Solution for Social Value Reporting

What motivated you to seek a software solution for measuring and tracking social value delivery?

"We wanted to give our clients real confidence – not just in our ESG ambition, but in our ability to deliver against it. We know that our work is transformative, but we didn’t always have the structure in place to capture, report or demonstrate that impact in a consistent way.

With Compliance Chain’s software, we’re now able to record our activity accurately, report in real-time, and share clear ROI figures that show the difference we’re making in the areas we work. It gives us credibility and holds us accountable to the standards we’ve set."

The Benefits of Social Value Reporting

What benefits do you anticipate from being able to track and evidence your social value more effectively?

"Real-time, accurate reporting has already made a big difference. It allows us to share impact updates with clients quickly and clearly, and internally, it’s helped us compile more meaningful annual reports.

There’s also a strong motivational aspect. When our teams can see the results of their work quantified in monetary terms, it reinforces the value of what they’re doing. It’s a powerful way to build engagement and momentum."

The Importance of Digitalising Processes

Why is digitalising your processes a priority for Morro?

"It’s about making things simpler, faster and more secure. Having an online platform means our team can access the system from anywhere, which is essential given how our sites and teams are spread out.

GDPR was also a key factor. With Compliance Chain, we can ensure that only authorised users can access the data they need, which gives us peace of mind when it comes to data privacy and compliance."

The Benefits of Compliance Chain

What immediate benefits do you expect to see from implementing Compliance Chain’s suite of software solutions?

"The main one is centralisation. Having one place to record all ESG activity means better organisation, more efficient workflows, and a clearer picture of our overall impact.

It’s streamlined the way we operate and allowed us to eliminate some of the manual work that used to slow us down."

Improving Transparency and Communication

How do you anticipate these solutions will help you improve transparency and communication within your internal and external stakeholders, in particular your site teams?

"Regular reporting is a big help here. It allows us to keep stakeholders updated and gives us a platform to recognise and celebrate the contributions of both site and back-office teams.

It also ensures that the great work being done on the ground doesn’t go unnoticed – it’s captured, recorded, and shared in a way that builds collective pride and ownership."

Advice for the Construction Industry

What advice would you give to other companies in the construction industry looking to enhance their social value and sustainability practices and those who might be starting their digitalisation journey?

"Don’t wait. The expectations around ESG are rising fast, and the sooner you start tracking your impact properly, the better prepared you’ll be.

Invest in a digital solution like Compliance Chain. It gives you the tools to record accurately and provide the evidence clients and funders increasingly expect. I’d also recommend appointing a dedicated ESG lead with company-wide oversight and target ownership. Relying on site teams alone isn’t realistic – you need someone driving this at a strategic level."

Selecting the Right Digital Tool

What was important to you when selecting the right digital tool for your business needs?

"Ease of use was crucial. We wanted a platform that was intuitive and visually clear. Something that our teams would actually want to use.

The ability to create and store case studies was another big plus, and the quality of account management has been outstanding. Any time we’ve needed support, our account manager has been on hand and ready to help. That level of service has made the whole implementation process much smoother."
