Principle Contractors Tilbury Douglas have successfully handed over a new maternity extension at Bradford Royal Infirmary on behalf of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The new maternity unit is part of a fast-track program of capital projects. With Compliance Chain, Tilbury Douglas was able to continuously provide updates throughout the project’s lifecycle and continues to use Compliance Chain for all remaining projects with the Trust.
The overall programme of works compromises of a combination of new build extension work, internal refurbishment, and infrastructure works. Once the whole programme of work is complete these new facilities will improve patient flow, boost the work environment, and enhance the experience and care provided to patients.
A £5.6m Women’s and Newborn Maternity Theatre is now complete and fully operational, allowing for planned and emergency caesareans, as well as other complicated deliveries. The unit at the hospital is one of the busiest in England, and the investment has transformed the maternity services, with two new maternity operating theatres housed in a new, two-storey extension at the rear of the existing building.
Both patients and hospital staff have praised the new facility, commenting on the increased space and storage, the softer clinical environment, which means patients’ dignity is better protected, and the new layout which allows mothers to see their babies, even if they are taken to resuscitation.
A representative at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS FT, commented: “This project is much needed and will make a significant improvement and enhancement for the people of the city and district. Well done to all the teams involved in creating this new state-of-the-art operating theatre complex”.
