State-of-the-art Blackpool Ambulance Hub now operational

Galliford try has successfully handed over Blackpool Ambulance Hub on behalf of Framework Users North West Ambulance Services (NWAS) NHS Trust. The new hub will reduce the Trust’s energy consumption and carbon footprint while also providing a modern, fit-for-purpose facility for staff and emergency vehicles.

This project was secured via the Procure Partnerships North West Framework with Galliford Try awarded under a Two Stage call-off procedure. This project was monitored via Compliance Chain

The Ambulance Hub marks a significant milestone for low carbon construction, providing a much-needed service for the people of Blackpool. The three-story station offers parking, offices, refreshment areas, training facilities, locker rooms, and changing rooms.

The Hubs low carbon design has been achieved through a review of measures, such as the envelope construction to maximise air tightness, the orientation of the building to allow best use of solar gains and eradication of points in the building where heat is lost, along with air and water source heat generation.

To provide a low carbon engineering service, low carbon technologies include air source heat pumps for hot water, LED lighting with smart lighting controls, heat recovery units, and heat and cooling systems.

These renewable energy technologies will significantly reduce the running costs of the station for NWAS.

Darren Parker, Managing Director for building North West, commented: “The Blackpool Ambulance Hub has been a fantastic project for our team to work on, creating a high quality low carbon facility that will be of great benefit to the ambulance service workers and the wider community for many years to come”

Natalie Palframan, Key Account Manager, Procure Partnerships Framework, commented: “The need for low-carbon blue light facilities is growing, so we are delighted to have supported this project. Modern facilities such as this have a lasting impact and will reduce our environmental footprint significantly. The newly constructed Blackpool Ambulance Hub has been designed and built to the highest standards and will be an excellent asset to the local community for years to come”
