A new £2.3m sports centre has been built by Compliance Chain Principal Contractors Stepnell on behalf of Lionheart Academies Trust at Martin High School, Leicestershire.
Compliance Chains project management tool enabled Stepnell to continually update project stakeholders from start to finish with monthly KPI reports.
The new two-storey sports centre contains all-weather pitches, a multipurpose four court badminton centre, gym facility, classroom and computer suite. To cater for more visitors changing rooms, a large car park, staffroom, kitchen, and WC facilities have also been added.
Additionally, Stepnell utilises Compliance Chains’ Social Value Delivery function to calculate their ongoing commitments in areas such as local employment, growth, and sustainability, as well social value achieved upon completion.
Stepnell’s commitment to social value has been commendable, involving the local community and school throughout the duration of the project. As an example, Stepnell’s site manager provided eight tours to 68 design students, providing an insight into the construction process.
Furthermore, Stepnell invested more than £226,000 of project costs with local micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs). The combination of social value implementations to promote jobs and growth accumulated in a 39.61% overall social return on investment for the build.
Tom Sewell, regional director at Stepnell: “The opportunities unlocked by this facility will benefit pupils at Martin High School, the wider community, sports clubs and teams for generations to come. We are delighted to have brought this ambitious project to life so that the school now has an enhanced PE curriculum with quality, hireable activity space for the Anstey community and surrounding areas.
This fantastic facility achieves the criteria set out by Sports England – meeting all energy, sustainability, acoustics, artificial lighting, and structural design specifications. As a Considerate Constructors partner, we worked closely with the school to ensure that class timetables were not impacted, while also keeping noise disruption to a minimum. We were also incredibly proud to have been able to add social value and invest in the local community through our commitments to working with the school to deliver educational programmes for pupils, as well as providing local employment and investment by working with businesses in the area.”
