Construction has started on the redevelopment of Spindles Town Square, on behalf of Oldham Council.
This Project was procured via the Procure Partnerships North West Framework. The project is currently being monitored via Compliance Chain.
During this major transformation, the former TJ Hughes unit will be demolished as part of a broader masterplan to create a 450,000 square foot development that will include a new market, flexible offices, event space, and a heritage archive.
A £10m social value package will also be delivered as part of the company’s ‘Upskilling in the Community’ plan. The appointed contractor will create 16 local jobs – two of which will go to long-term unemployed residents.
They pledge to spend £9m on local suppliers, over £500k on Oldham micro, small and medium businesses, as well as a full refurbishment of Fitton Hill Community Facility and the support of local charities and organisations.
Faye Dolan, National Framework Manager at Procure Partnerships Framework said:
“Social value is at the heart of this project, and we’re delighted to be working alongside Oldham Council, Compliance Chain and our contractor partner to support its delivery.”
“We would encourage subcontractors and material suppliers local to Oldham to register free as a supplier on the Compliance Chain platform to become searchable by the principal contractor and client as they are building their local supply chain.”
